The Albania Financial Services Authority, working with the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation and with World Bank support, held an international conference on reforming Albania’s pension system, bringing together international financial institutions, supervisory authorities, market participants and experts to discuss current challenges and reform responses. AMF’s Executive General Director, Mimoza Kaçi, took part in a panel on private pensions and defined contribution schemes, focusing on obstacles in the private pension fund market and initiatives to strengthen and expand it. The discussions referenced Albania’s new law on private pension funds adopted in November 2023, which the authority described as a step towards alignment with the European Union’s IORP II framework and as introducing measures aimed at increasing participation, expanding investment options, providing fiscal incentives, improving governance and strengthening member protection. AMF indicated it will continue work to monitor implementation of the new legal and regulatory framework for private pensions.
