The European Commission announced it will host the Vienna Initiative Full Forum 2025 in Brussels on 29 September 2025, with discussions focused on the relevance of the savings and investments union (SIU) project for central, eastern and southern-eastern European (CESEE) economies. Participants will examine the challenges and potential benefits of SIU for the CESEE region. SIU is the Commission’s initiative to improve financial opportunities for citizens and businesses by strengthening the financial system’s ability to connect savings with productive investments, and the College of Commissioners is expected to discuss several SIU proposals in the near future. Commissioner for Financial Services and the Savings and Investments Union Maria Luís Albuquerque will deliver the keynote and take part in an opening panel on SIU’s value in CESEE countries, alongside central bank governors, ministers, and representatives from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank, World Bank, International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank, as well as financial sector participants; the forum sits within the European Bank Coordination Vienna Initiative framework for safeguarding financial stability in emerging Europe.
