The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance (SUSEP) has issued Resolution No. 55/2025 establishing reference contractual conditions for rural insurance plans eligible for federal premium subsidies under the Rural Insurance Premium Subsidy Programme (PSR). The measure covers agricultural crop insurance for soybeans, corn and wheat and takes effect on 1 September 2025. The reference wording is intended to streamline SUSEP’s product review and approval process and shorten timelines for granting PSR subsidies, while optimising the use of public funds. SUSEP links the approach to reducing information asymmetries between insurers and rural producers, lowering regulatory and supervisory costs, and improving policy clause quality by increasing clarity and predictability on cover, time limits and claims adjustment. SUSEP also frames the resolution as the first of its rules approved in alignment with Law 15.040 of 9 December 2024, which enters into force on 10 December 2025.
