The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten reported that the National Payment Council (NPC) agreed to jointly organise an information session for the business community in Curaçao and Sint Maarten on innovative payment methods, alongside an awareness campaign on risks linked to online payments such as payment links and QR codes. The NPC highlighted that limited understanding of newer payment methods among entrepreneurs can lead to unnecessary costs and reduced payment convenience. Planned outreach includes public education materials covering local payment card schemes, payment terminals and the development of instant payments. In the context of rising digital payment use, the NPC also focused on payment fraud, noting that it agreed in June 2025 that the central bank would initiate an online anti-fraud campaign, which was launched in November 2025 with guidance on recognising and responding to online payment fraud. Work on instant payments remains ongoing, with the NPC planning to explore options to enable instant payments between Curaçao and Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Aruba and the Netherlands.
