The National Bank of Bulgaria issued an alert about new cases of fraudulent phone calls from individuals posing as central bank employees and claiming that loans are being granted on behalf of the bank. The callers provide instructions for actions including depositing money or initiating transfers, and the National Bank of Bulgaria stressed these calls are scams and do not originate from its staff. The alert notes that in some cases the scheme is combined with fake calls purportedly from other state and public institutions. The National Bank of Bulgaria urged the public not to provide personal data by phone and not to follow instructions received in such calls, and advised anyone suspecting fraud to contact their servicing bank immediately and report it to the Ministry of Interior; it also reiterated that it does not call citizens with offers of loans or other financial services.
