The Central Bank of Russia reported that suspicious transactions involving cash withdrawals and transfers of funds abroad declined to RUB 20.9 billion in the first half of 2026, from RUB 32 billion a year earlier. Suspicious cash withdrawals through banks more than halved to RUB 7.4 billion, while comparable transactions outside the banking sector changed only slightly at RUB 8 billion. Suspicious transfers abroad fell 35% to RUB 5.5 billion. Transactions involving money mules, including those facilitating payments for illegal cryptocurrency exchanges and online casinos, declined by one-third. The central bank also attributed the broader reduction in suspicious activity to its Know Your Customer Platform, which has supported restrictions on accounts belonging to about 190,000 high-risk entities since its launch in 2022.
