The Caribbean Community reported on the conclusion of the 127th Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development on Agriculture, with ministers and officials calling for regional policy decisions and commitments to move into implementation. The meeting addressed progress in reducing the regional food import bill, food safety, access to plant material, animal and soil health, the blue and green economy, and youth participation in agriculture. Jamaica’s Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining Floyd Green said implementation should produce tangible benefits for farmers and fishers, more reliable food supplies for consumers and agricultural ecosystems that can better withstand disruptions. Dr. Wendell Samuel, acting assistant secretary-general for economic integration, innovation and development at the Caribbean Community Secretariat, similarly emphasized that the meeting’s decisions must deliver practical benefits across the region.
