The Bank of Greece reported that the weighted average interest rate on new euro denominated loans rose 11 basis points to 4.79% in August 2026, while the rate on new deposits was almost unchanged at 0.37%. The resulting spread widened to 4.42 percentage points. New lending rates diverged across categories. Floating rate housing and fixed maturity consumer loan rates fell to 3.39% and 9.89%, respectively, while the rate on revolving consumer credit rose to 14.59%. The rate on fixed maturity floating rate corporate loans increased to 4.35%, including a rise to 4.58% for lending to small and medium sized enterprises. Rates on outstanding balances were broadly stable. The weighted average deposit rate remained at 0.37%, while the loan rate was almost unchanged at 4.84%, leaving the spread broadly steady at 4.47 percentage points.
