Bolivia's Ministry of Economy and Public Finance announced the reinstatement of debit and credit card use, with the measure fully available to the public from 7 April at the end of the day, restoring the ability to conduct card-based financial transactions domestically and abroad. The ministry said the change affects more than 2.7 million people and more than 8 million cards. Credit cards may be used without restrictions, subject to repayment capacity. For debit cards, banks must make at least USD 500 available so users can make transactions for any amount up to a stated USD 500 monthly level, while each financial institution may set higher amounts depending on its availability and internal policies. Card transactions will be processed using the Central Bank of Bolivia reference exchange rate, and the ministry highlighted resumed use cases including payments and cash withdrawals abroad, purchases on international platforms, and access to global digital services.
