The Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets published the text of a keynote speech by its chair, Laura van Geest, delivered at an AFME event in Frankfurt, centred on the message “Make Europe Strong (Again)” and the need for Europe to act together amid geopolitical tensions. Van Geest framed the route to a stronger Europe around three priorities for a largely financial-sector audience: improving European Union laws and rules, moving to more efficient and more centralised supervision, and fostering a European mindset. She argued that building a genuine internal European financial market will require hard work and, in particular, close collaboration, and suggested that periods of uncertainty can be used to drive new breakthroughs.
