The Central Bank of Nigeria has elevated terrorism financing risk to a current supervisory priority, increasing its focus on how financial institutions manage and monitor the risk. Supervision will cover terrorism financing risk management, transaction monitoring, targeted financial sanctions and related suspicious transaction reporting. The central bank will apply risk based supervision through on-site and off-site engagement to assess compliance with existing anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing and counter-proliferation financing obligations. Further supervisory engagement will take place as appropriate.
