The National Bank of the Republic of Tajikistan published an update on a meeting between Chairman Firdavs Tolibzoda and representatives of the Global Green Growth Institute, centered on sustainable finance, the green financial system, investment in environmental projects and future cooperation. The discussion highlighted possible technical assistance from GGGI and the parties’ stated readiness to deepen cooperation on long-term investment, capital market development and potential quasi-sovereign green bond issuance in Tajikistan. The central bank described climate change as both an environmental and an economic and financial issue, and said green finance remains a priority in Tajikistan’s economic policy. It pointed to ongoing measures to attract private capital, develop the capital market and manage climate-related risks. The meeting also treated Eskhata Bank’s first corporate green bond issuance in Tajikistan, supported by the International Finance Corporation, as an important precedent for further market and sustainable finance development. Technical support under discussion covered legal and institutional frameworks, staff capacity building and the identification of projects that meet green finance requirements.
