The National Bank of Moldova published statistics on Moldova’s non-cash foreign exchange market for December 2025, covering banks’ spot, swap and forward purchases and sales of foreign currency against the Moldovan leu and excluding the central bank’s own transactions. In euro equivalent (thousand EUR), interbank SPOT turnover totalled 13,378.1 in purchases and 17,448.7 in sales, largely in EUR (12,865.8 purchases and 16,936.4 sales) with USD at 512.3 on both sides. Intrabank SPOT turnover was much larger at 532,410.2 in purchases and 820,423.0 in sales, dominated by EUR (327,350.3 purchases and 444,187.2 sales) and USD (191,808.7 purchases and 327,625.2 sales), with smaller volumes in Romanian leu, Russian rouble, pound sterling, Swiss franc and other currencies. SWAP activity was limited to interbank EUR swaps of 48.4 on both the buy and sell sides, and no FORWARD operations were recorded. The dataset is compiled from banks’ regulatory reports under the framework for setting the official exchange rate of the Moldovan leu, with transactions recorded on the trade date, euro equivalents calculated using monthly average exchange rates, and SWAP volumes measured as a daily weighted average by tenor.
