The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that its chair, Melis Turgunbaev, participated as the Kyrgyz Republic’s governor to the International Monetary Fund in the IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings held in Washington, DC from 13 to 18 October 2025, and used related IMF events to outline the main challenges facing the Kyrgyz economy amid external turbulence and the central bank’s focus on price and financial stability. During the meetings, he joined discussions within the Swiss IMF voting constituency on global economic developments, inflation risks, and ways to deepen cooperation among constituency members. He also acted as a lead speaker at events organised by the IMF’s Middle East and Central Asia Department alongside regional central bank heads and IMF Deputy Managing Director Bo Li, and held bilateral meetings with the heads of the Swiss National Bank and the Central Bank of Bahrain on prospects for financial and banking-sector cooperation.
