The New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs has released the Identity Verification Code of Practice, which provides best practice guidance for verifying the identity of customers as part of the Government’s wider work to modernise and strengthen New Zealand’s anti-money laundering and countering financing of terrorism system, and it will commence on 1 July 2026.

The New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs has released the Identity Verification Code of Practice, setting out best practice guidance for verifying customer identity.
