The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic has further adjusted its temporary foreign currency rules, extending commercial banks’ permission to export worn U.S. dollar banknotes and U.S. dollar notes issued through 2006 until March 1, 2027. The notes may be taken outside Kyrgyzstan in exchange for cash U.S. dollars, noncash U.S. dollars or both. In a separate resolution, the central bank repealed its March 2022 temporary rules for transactions in Kazakh tenge. This removes the restriction that capped the cash tenge purchase rate against the Kyrgyz som at 70% of the official exchange rate after applying a risk-weighting coefficient.
