The National Bank of Moldova has warned that false messages and documents are circulating online and through messaging applications while misusing the institution’s identity. The materials use the bank’s logo, official-sounding wording, fictitious document numbers and signatures falsely attributed to senior officials, and instruct citizens to take steps related to supposed loans, cancellation requests, money transfers or other financial operations. The central bank said these messages and documents are fraudulent and were not issued, approved or transmitted by it. The bank reiterated that it does not contact citizens to request personal data, passwords, confirmation codes or banking information, does not ask people to take out loans or make transfers to "cancel" operations, does not grant loans to individuals, and does not intervene in contractual relationships between citizens and financial institutions. It also said it does not create “corporate chats” to handle alleged fraud cases or appoint “specialists” to give individual instructions on loans, accounts or payments. Recipients were urged to stop communication immediately, avoid suspicious links, not share identity documents, bank details, passwords or SMS codes, not make payments on the instructions of unknown persons, and notify their servicing bank and law enforcement.
