The Bank of Cape Verde reported that Governor Óscar Santos and other senior officials participated in the Cape Verde Investment Forum held on Sal island from 18 to 20 June 2025, an event organised by Cabo Verde TradeInvest to promote investment opportunities and convene companies, financial and development institutions, investors and entrepreneurs. The programme included plenary sessions presenting investment success cases and thematic discussions on tourism, transport, digitalisation, renewable energy and the blue economy. One session showcased potential uses of artificial intelligence and blockchain in the financial system for fraud monitoring, anti-money laundering prevention and Know Your Customer processes, as well as potential central bank use in issuing a central bank digital currency. The final day focused on the Global Gateway in Cape Verde, outlining European Union and European multilateral development bank investment tools, while the Bank also highlighted exposure to financial-sector digitalisation initiatives such as the Koru initiative, which aims in part to create a stablecoin.
