The National Bank of Serbia published an “It’s useful to know” column outlining the expansion of its cooperation with Discover, which will enable Discover cards to be accepted in Serbia via the DinaCard acceptance network, alongside the existing co-branded DinaCard-Discover product that supports use abroad. The column explains that cooperation with Discover began in 2010 to give DinaCard international functionality through co-branded DinaCard-Discover cards, which can be used abroad on Discover’s global network. In Serbia, these co-branded cards retain DinaCard features such as free issuance, contactless functionality and no additional costs when used at merchants and the issuing bank’s own ATMs; for transactions abroad, currency conversion is conducted at the National Bank of Serbia’s selling exchange rate. The expanded cooperation is being implemented through a new agreement to allow Discover cards issued outside Serbia to be used on the DinaCard acceptance network, with Banka Poštanska štedionica identified as the first bank to enable acceptance at its merchants and use at its ATMs. In the coming period, other banks are expected to enable Discover card payments at their merchants and allow Discover card withdrawals at their own ATMs.
