The Australian Securities and Investments Commission has outlined increases to the minimum net tangible asset thresholds for responsible entities of registered managed investment schemes, operators of investor directed portfolio services and corporate directors of retail corporate collective investment vehicles. The thresholds will be adjusted for inflation between June 2013, when they were last updated, and March 2026, followed by annual indexation. The changes will take effect on July 1, 2027, with the applicable thresholds incorporating the first annual indexation adjustment. ASIC selected the inflation-based approach after considering 18 consultation submissions, some of which warned that more extensive changes could harm competition and innovation. It will amend the relevant financial requirements instrument and update Regulatory Guide 166 in the coming months.
