The Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority has launched an in depth review of how financial firms protect themselves against cyberthreats from advanced artificial intelligence models. The review will use on-site visits to assess how firms identify emerging AI related threats and risks and adapt their safeguards as attack capabilities evolve. The authority said advanced AI models have demonstrated an increasing ability during 2026 to automate cyberattacks, including identifying vulnerabilities and supporting sophisticated attacks at scale. Following meetings and ongoing dialogue with firms since spring 2026, the review will examine their capacity to prevent, detect and manage such attacks. Financial firms are subject to extensive cyber risk requirements under the European Union’s Digital Operational Resilience Act.
