HM Treasury has opened a six-week Call for Evidence for its independent Access to Banking Review, seeking views on whether changes in access to in-person banking services are causing detriment to consumers, communities and businesses in the UK. The review, led by Richard Lloyd OBE, will use the evidence to assess customer needs, the scale of any harm and the likely trajectory of in-person banking services before making recommendations to government in October 2026. The exercise is open to individuals, community groups, businesses and organisations, including those working in financial services and financial inclusion, and focuses on access to face-to-face banking services. HM Treasury said the government will act where the evidence shows action is needed to protect access to banking services, including through legislation if necessary. The Call for Evidence closes on 20 July 2026.
