The Sustainable Banking and Finance Network (SBFN) announced that the Asociación de Instituciones de Microfinanzas del Perú (ASOMIF Perú) has joined as its newest member, expanding SBFN to 99 members across 72 countries. ASOMIF Perú is a national association representing Peru’s microfinance institutions, including rural and municipal savings and credit banks and EDPYMEs. ASOMIF Perú became a signatory in 2020 of Peru’s “Green Protocol”, a voluntary agreement developed with the Ministry of Environment and other financial sector associations to support the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria into projects and investments financed in Peru. The association highlighted priorities including implementation of environmental and social risk management systems, development of green lending products, and promotion of thematic bond issuance, particularly focused on gender equity and water and sanitation. Peru’s Superintendence of Banks, Insurers, and Private Pension Funds has been an SBFN member since 2013, which SBFN cited as an existing foundation for broader collaboration in Peru’s financial sector.
