The Albania Financial Services Authority published its January–April 2025 statistical bulletin on Albania’s insurance market. Gross written premiums reached ALL 7,666 million, up 8.14% from January–April 2024, while the number of insurance contracts rose 11.76% to 474,965. Gross paid claims were about ALL 2,669 million, 4.25% lower year on year. Non-life business accounted for 90.43% of premium volume, with life at 9.52% and reinsurance at 0.052%. Compulsory insurance represented 60.65% of premiums, driven by compulsory motor insurance premiums of around ALL 4,650 million (+14.26%), while voluntary insurance premiums were ALL 3,017 million (-0.10%) with contracts up 11.48%; voluntary non-life premiums declined 3.09%. Within compulsory motor, domestic MTPL premium volume increased 13.92% (contracts +7.37%), Green Card premiums 17.40% (contracts +22.37%), and Border insurance premiums 6.18% (contracts +4.71%). Motor insurance generated gross paid claims of ALL 1,992 million, up 0.84% and equal to 74.61% of total paid claims. In the property, liability and guarantee portfolios (over ALL 1,167 million in premium income), fire and other damage to property represented 65.58% and general liability 21.36%; in the fire and natural forces portfolio, premium volume fell 9.90% while contracts rose 9.51%. Accident and health premiums totalled about ALL 460 million (-9.58%) and life premiums were around ALL 730 million (+10.55%); the release also notes average motor claim amounts (in thousand lek) for domestic MTPL (158 in 2024 to 155 in 2025), Green Card (961 to 403) and Casco (111 to 117), and that paid-claims data include Compensation Fund claims reported by the Albanian Insurance Bureau.
