The Central Bank of Luxembourg released provisional balance sheet statistics for Luxembourg credit institutions showing the aggregate balance sheet total at EUR 957.878bn at 31 December 2024, down 1.48% from EUR 972.277bn at 30 November 2024 and up 1.17% year on year. On the asset side, the change was mainly linked to higher holdings of securities, while non-bank sector deposits were the main contributor on the liability side. The net interbank position fell by EUR 1.963bn (0.85%) to EUR 229.382bn at end-December 2024. Loans to non-bank customers declined by EUR 0.319bn (0.28%) between November and December 2024 but increased by EUR 0.973bn (0.87%) over twelve months, with year-on-year loans to non-financial corporations (SNF) down EUR 3.605bn (13%), household mortgage lending up EUR 0.312bn (0.76%) and lending to other financial intermediaries (AIF) up EUR 4.661bn (13.17%). Resident non-bank sector deposits decreased by EUR 2.177bn (0.75%) over the month but increased by EUR 18.538bn (6.86%) over twelve months, driven by AIF deposits up EUR 13.544bn (7.63%) and accounting for 66.2% of the total at 31 December 2024, alongside increases in deposits from households (EUR 2.071bn, 4.56%), SNF (EUR 1.069bn, 4.42%) and other sectors including general government, insurance corporations and pension funds (EUR 1.854bn, 8.01%).
