The Bank of the Lao reported that it co-chaired the 51st ASEAN Working Committee on Capital Account Liberalization meeting in Bohol, Philippines, together with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. The meeting convened representatives from 11 ASEAN member countries to discuss regional capital flow conditions and capital account liberalization work. Discussions covered developments in capital movements in the region, including measures aimed at maintaining macroeconomic stability. Participants also reviewed progress on facilitating cross-border capital movements through regulatory updates to reduce restrictions, considered approaches to managing related risks, and exchanged practical lessons on promoting the use of local currencies for settling intra-ASEAN trade and investment. The results of the meeting will be taken forward to support further cooperation within the region.
