The U.S. Department of Justice announced that Travis Ford, an Oklahoma-based cryptocurrency investment firm founder, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud for his role in a cryptocurrency investment fraud scheme conducted through Wolf Capital Crypto Trading LLC. The scheme raised USD 9.4 million from approximately 2,800 investors, with investor funds misappropriated and diverted for the benefit of Ford and co-conspirators. From January 2023 through August 2023, Ford solicited investments via Wolf Capital’s website and other social media and internet-based promotions, holding himself out as a sophisticated trader and promising returns of 1–2% per day (approximately 547% per year). He admitted he did not believe the promised returns were possible to achieve consistently and used those false promises to induce members of the public to invest. Ford faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison, with sentencing not yet scheduled. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is investigating the case.
