The South African Reserve Bank published its international reserves and foreign currency liquidity template for end-June 2026, reporting USD 74.115 billion in official reserve assets held by the central bank and South Africa’s central government. The total comprised USD 50.735 billion in foreign currency reserves, USD 16.263 billion in gold, USD 6.232 billion in special drawing rights and USD 885 million in the International Monetary Fund reserve position. Predetermined central government foreign currency outflows due within one year totaled USD 2.8 billion, consisting of USD 872 million in principal and USD 1.928 billion in interest. Long positions in forwards and futures totaled USD 585 million, while contingent foreign currency liabilities were USD 1.314 billion. Of total reserves, USD 69.005 billion was held in currencies in the special drawing rights basket, including gold, and USD 5.11 billion in other currencies.
