The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority is hosting the 2025 Annual East Africa Insurance Regulators and ZEP-RE Strategic Forum in Zanzibar from 21 to 24 July 2025, bringing together regional supervisors to discuss strengthening insurance regulation, enhancing cooperation, and promoting inclusive insurance markets. The programme is framed around “Protecting Public Assets Against Climate Change and Disaster Risk Through Pre-Arranged Financing Mechanisms,” with discussions focused on how insurance and regulatory frameworks can support government resilience to climate-related shocks and natural disasters. The Commissioner of Insurance, Dr. Baghayo Saqware, is leading TIRA’s delegation alongside senior officials and the Tanzania Insurance Ombudsman, participating in sessions and panel discussions on regulatory improvements and policyholder protection. The forum is organised in partnership with ZEP-RE (PTA Reinsurance Company) and the East African Insurance Supervisors’ Association (EAISA), with a stated aim of advancing regional regulatory harmonisation and climate risk insurance solutions. The forum is expected to produce key resolutions to improve regulatory alignment, advance climate and disaster risk insurance approaches, and enhance consumer protection across the East African region.
