The Central Bank of Mexico has published two regulatory changes to support wider use of digital payments. One requires institutions that offer fund transfer services to provide a simplified and standardized experience in their mobile applications. The other expands the operating tiers for demand deposit accounts by allowing credit institutions to offer a new simplified Level 2 Bis account aimed at small merchants. The new account tier allows monthly incoming funds of up to 15,000 UDIs, with at least 12,000 UDIs required to come from digital payment receipts. The measure is designed to better align account limits with users' transaction profiles and to give small businesses an account that supports sending and receiving digital payments in line with their economic activity. The Central Bank of Mexico said the two measures are intended to improve digital payment access for more than 80 million transfer service users and more than 4.4 million small merchants.
