The Financial Superintendency of Colombia ordered María Alejandra Almendrales Suárez to immediately stop the unauthorized collection of public funds and return the money obtained. The regulator found that at least 31 people provided COP 450,073,009 for purported investments in gold trading, without evidence that the underlying business activity occurred or that the promised returns had financial support. The scheme offered fixed returns of 20% every five weeks, repayment of principal and opportunities for periodic reinvestment, sometimes through documents titled “Free Investment Agreement.” The regulator referred the case to the Superintendency of Companies for potential administrative intervention and to the Attorney General’s Office for criminal investigation.
