The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta appointed Alexander "Alex" Monge-Naranjo as vice president and senior economist in its Research Division, where he will lead a team of economists. Monge-Naranjo joined the Atlanta Fed in a part-time capacity in April 2025 and moved to full time in June. His work spans macroeconomics, growth, development, international and labor economics, with a research focus on human capital, and his prior roles include chair of the economics department at the European University Institute and economist positions at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, as well as academic posts at Northwestern University and Pennsylvania State University.
