The Hong Kong Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority published provisional Mandatory Provident Fund investment return data through the end of September 2026, showing that major fund categories and the Default Investment Strategy delivered long-term annualized net returns above inflation. Since the MPF System began, equity funds and mixed assets funds returned an average annualized 5.1% and 4.7%, respectively, compared with annualized inflation of 1.8%. The two categories represented 81% of total MPF assets. The Core Accumulation Fund under the Default Investment Strategy generated an average annualized net return of 7.1% since its 2017 launch, also against annualized inflation of 1.8%. The authority urged scheme members to avoid market timing and assess their investment strategy based on factors including life stage, financial position, risk tolerance, fees and performance over different periods. Members who lack the time or knowledge to manage their investments may consider the Default Investment Strategy, which invests across global equity and bond markets, automatically reduces risk with age and caps fund fees at 0.85% of net asset value.
