The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has published a warning from Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited about a fraudulent website that falsely claims to be linked to HKICL. The site is designed to obtain users’ login credentials, bank name, bank account number and account holder’s name, and then directs users to a fraudster impersonating customer service personnel. HKICL said the website has no affiliation with HKICL or its business. It also said it does not normally contact individual members of the public proactively. The notice urges the public to stay alert to suspicious calls, websites and other communications, protect personal information, verify any suspicious approach that appears to come from HKICL, and report suspected fraud to the Police.
