Bank of Ghana Governor Johnson Pandit Asiama announced that the central bank will introduce the Heritage Series, an upgraded range of Ghana cedi banknotes with stronger security features, greater durability and modern designs reflecting Ghana’s heritage. The series is intended to strengthen protection against counterfeiting, withstand prolonged circulation and reduce currency management costs after more than two decades under the current core designs. The Heritage Series will co-circulate with existing Ghana cedi banknotes, which will remain legal tender. The public will not need to exchange or withdraw existing notes solely because of the upgrade. The new series will be officially launched on November 3, 2026, at Bank Square in Accra.
