The Central Bank of Peru published a labor market update showing that formal employment nationwide rose 4.2 percent in May 2026 from a year earlier. The increase marked 26 consecutive months of growth and amounted to 251,000 additional formal jobs across the country. In the private sector, formal employment increased 5.4 percent year on year in May. The largest gains came from services, which added 98,000 jobs, followed by commerce with 51,000 and agriculture with 38,000. Other private-sector segments also expanded, including mining, construction and manufacturing, while fishing contracted.
