The Bank of Israel announced that most banks will gradually enable customers to deposit post-dated checks through mobile applications, with full availability expected during October. The service expands mobile check deposits beyond checks for immediate payment and will operate continuously without requiring a branch visit. Customers may deposit crossed checks marked “To the beneficiary only” with a value of up to ILS 100,000 and a payment date up to 13 months ahead. Banks will retain an image and automatically present the check for payment on the specified date, while customers must keep the physical check. Check details and payment dates will be shared among banks to prevent duplicate deposits. Checks accounted for about ILS 640 billion in transactions in 2025, or about 5% of activity through Israel’s main payment methods. The change is intended to reduce processing costs and save time and resources for customers and banks, particularly households and small businesses.
