The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) ordered the cessation of unauthorised insurance intermediation conducted via insuranceniriass.eu and temporanea.assicurpoint.it and instructed Italian-based providers to block access to the sites. The blocking process is under way and, for technical reasons, may take a few days to complete. The cease-and-desist orders are published in IVASS’s “Defend ourselves from scams” section, and the cumulative number of websites targeted since IVASS began using its blocking power in November 2023 has risen to 307. IVASS also reiterated guidance for consumers to exercise caution with insurance offers made online, by phone or via instant messaging, particularly for temporary motor third-party liability policies, and to verify before paying premiums that quotes and contracts refer to authorised insurers and intermediaries by checking IVASS registers and lists, including the Register of Insurance Intermediaries (RUI) and the lists of insurers admitted to operate in Italy.
