The Ghana National Insurance Commission (NIC) and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) have signed a memorandum of understanding to train and create employment opportunities for around 500 young people in Ghana’s insurance sector, linking the initiative to youth unemployment and low insurance penetration. Under the arrangement, NIC is expected to lead training through the Ghana Insurance College, after which beneficiaries will be deployed to licensed insurance entities nationwide to promote insurance awareness and educate the public on different forms of insurance. At the signing in Accra, YEA’s acting Chief Executive Officer highlighted a shortage of qualified insurance personnel as a constraint on access to insurance services, while NIC’s acting Commissioner of Insurance indicated the Commission’s readiness to support implementation.
