The Bank of Canada announced that the University of Ottawa won the tenth annual Governor’s Challenge, a national student competition in which teams simulate advising the Bank’s Governing Council. The winners were announced after the final round held on February 1, 2025. Six teams competed in the final round, presenting their views on Canada’s economic outlook and recommending a monetary policy decision to a panel of senior central bank officials. The other finalists were Université de Sherbrooke, University of Guelph, University of Alberta, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Western University. The competition began on November 13, 2024 and included more than 100 students from 26 Canadian universities, with six teams selected for the final round on November 25; the Bank noted that since the first competition, more than 60 participants have joined the Bank.
