The Portuguese Securities Commission (CMVM) published findings from its sixth survey aimed predominantly at the university population, based on 2,319 valid responses collected in 2025. In its first assessment of attitudes toward general risk, financial risk and losses, the survey found that 58.9% of respondents displayed some loss aversion, while 42.3% showed some financial risk aversion and 19.2% showed some tolerance for financial risk. Higher financial knowledge was associated with greater tolerance for risk and losses. Financial literacy vulnerabilities persisted despite respondents having a higher level of education than the general Portuguese population. Some 36.7% reported little or no knowledge of financial markets and instruments, while 33.1% answered fewer than half of the financial literacy questions correctly. Nearly half saved more than 10% of monthly income, but 11.6% did not save regularly and 5.7% had accumulated no savings during the previous 12 months.
