The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission is working with the Thai Life Assurance Association and the Thai Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors to strengthen life insurance sales standards across all channels. At an Aug. 3 meeting, the regulator emphasized that customers must receive accurate, complete and sufficient information, intermediaries must follow professional ethics, and product recommendations should reflect customers’ objectives, financial goals and ability to pay premiums throughout the contract term. The organizations agreed to develop a coordinated public education plan, including a series of short, accessible materials covering product selection, agent license checks, return calculations, comparisons with other financial products and consumer rights. Building on the regulator’s existing 10-point purchasing checklist, the update also urges consumers to verify an agent’s license and insurer affiliation, pay premiums directly into the insurer’s account through electronic payment rather than an agent’s personal account, retain payment evidence and review policy terms upon receipt.
