The State Bank of Vietnam said Deputy Governor Pham Tien Dung met Visa Chief Executive Officer Ryan McInerney in Hanoi and used the meeting to press for continued cooperation on payment innovation and security. In outlining the central bank’s priorities, he linked the discussion to Vietnam’s broader national digital transformation agenda and pointed to continued growth in cashless payments. The State Bank of Vietnam said 88 percent of adults in Vietnam now have a bank account and that QR code and other electronic payments are becoming more common in daily life. It asked Visa to work closely with the central bank and Vietnamese credit institutions on researching and applying new payment technologies, developing safe and convenient payment products and services, and sharing expertise to help card issuers and card payment institutions strengthen controls against fraud, money laundering and high-tech crime. Visa said it would continue supporting innovation, digital payments, wider financial access and Vietnam’s national digital transformation goals.

The State Bank of Vietnam met with Visa’s Chief Executive Officer to seek continued cooperation on payment innovation and security in support of Vietnam’s digital transformation and growing cashless payments.
