The National Bank of Moldova and the International Finance Corporation have signed a cooperation agreement to support implementation of the 2024–2028 Roadmap for Sustainable Development, aiming to strengthen Moldova’s sustainable finance regulatory framework and build institutional capacity across supervision and the banking sector. The agreement was signed in Luxembourg on 3 July 2025 on the sidelines of the IMF Constituency and World Bank Group meeting. Under the agreement, IFC will provide technical assistance across two workstreams: developing the national framework for integrating environmental, social and governance criteria and a taxonomy, and strengthening institutional capabilities. Planned activities include developing green lending guidelines, support on non-financial reporting, and training for National Bank of Moldova staff and the banking sector to facilitate application of new requirements. The cooperation is positioned within Moldova’s EU accession priorities and is intended to support the transposition of Regulation (EU) 2020/852 on the taxonomy for sustainable activities, which is expected to be completed by 2026.
