The Central Bank of Russia published data showing that cash in circulation declined by 3.4% in 2025 to RUB 125.7 trillion, linking the decrease to the growing popularity of cashless payments. Banks’ cash offices and ATMs accepted RUB 61.2 trillion and dispensed RUB 64.5 trillion. Cash transactions were mostly conducted by individuals, but cash payments for goods and services fell to RUB 6.7 trillion, down 16% year on year, while the inflow of cash into individuals’ accounts decreased by almost 21% to RUB 11.7 trillion. ATM cash withdrawals and deposits remained nearly unchanged from 2024 at RUB 76.2 trillion, representing over 60% of total cash in circulation, with the highest cash use reported in Moscow, the Moscow Region, St Petersburg, and the Krasnodar Territory.
