The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision has ordered the cessation of insurance intermediation carried out through four websites that it says were offering insurance services without authorisation, and has instructed internet providers operating in Italy to block access to the sites. The blocking process is under way and, for technical reasons, may take a few days to complete. The sites covered by the order are www.moretti-assicurazioni.com, moretti-assicurazioni.com, ramundoassicurazioni.it, preventivi.ramundoassicurazioni.it and rc.antoniomangione.it. The cease-and-desist orders are published in IVASS’s “Defend ourselves from scams” section, and the authority reported that the cumulative number of abusive sites subject to such orders has risen to 275 since IVASS began exercising its website-blocking power in November 2023. IVASS also reiterated consumer guidance to use caution when evaluating insurance offers via the internet, telephone or messaging apps, particularly for temporary motor third-party liability policies, and to verify that quotations and contracts relate to duly authorised insurers and intermediaries by consulting the relevant IVASS registers and lists.
