The Jersey Financial Services Commission has warned of a further cold-calling scam targeting Jersey residents and Jersey-based businesses, with fraudsters pretending to represent banks and bank fraud teams. The scam involves unexpected calls asking for sensitive security details, including one-time passcodes, so that criminals can access online bank accounts and steal funds. The Commission urged people not to share personal, banking or security information over the phone and to verify any contact claiming to be from a bank or other financial institution using details from an official website or the back of a bank card. It highlighted common warning signs including pressure to act quickly, claims that money must be moved to a "safe account", requests to click links, unusual payment methods, poor spelling and grammar, and slightly altered website or social media addresses. Scammers may also use real names, cloned websites, copied branding, and AI-generated images or voices. Anyone who believes they have been targeted should report the matter to their bank if a payment has been made, the States of Jersey Police, and the JFSC Enforcement team.
