The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert to the public after Bank of Singapore Limited reported a fraudulent mobile application to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded customers that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing them to bank websites to carry out transactions, nor request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS (including via embedded hyperlinks). It advised anyone who provided personal information or conducted financial transactions through or in response to the app to contact the bank using the details in Bank of Singapore’s press release and to report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
