The National Bank of Serbia reported that it and 18 of the country’s 19 banks have joined the Single Euro Payments Area Credit Transfer scheme and began operational participation in May 2026. Preliminary data show that a significant share of Serbia’s cross-border euro transactions with SEPA countries used the scheme in its first month of operation. The scheme enables euro payments across the SEPA area under common technical and business rules. Funds must be credited to the payee’s account within one business day after receipt of a duly completed payment order and any required documentation or information. Payees receive the full transaction amount without intermediary bank deductions, while each party pays its own bank’s charges.
