Norway's Department of Finance said Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg met Kenyan President William Ruto to discuss the Government Pension Fund Global and how it is managed, as Kenya starts work on its own sovereign wealth fund. The discussion focused on exchanging views and sharing Norway's experience as Kenya develops the Kenya Sovereign Wealth Fund. Kenya's planned fund is to be financed from petroleum and mining revenues and is intended to support macroeconomic stabilization, strategic investment and long term savings for future generations. Kenyan authorities initiated the meeting and have identified Norway as an important source of inspiration. The department also placed the exchange in the context of wider economic ties, noting long standing Norwegian business activity in Kenya and Norfund investments in areas including clean energy and financial inclusion.
